No translation could do justice to the <!--more-->French.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #406688;\">Au pas saccad\u00e9 de son cheval, Golo, plein d\u2019un affreux dessein, sortait de la petite for\u00eat triangulaire qui veloutait d\u2019un vert sombre la pente d\u2019une colline, et s\u2019avan\u00e7ait en tressautant vers le ch\u00e2teau de la pauvre Genevi\u00e8ve de Brabant.\u00a0<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #33436c;\">Riding at a jerky trot, Golo, his mind filled with an infamous design, issued from the little three-cornered forest which dyed dark-green the slope of a convenient hill, and advanced by leaps and bounds towards the castle of poor Genevi\u00e8ve de Brabant.\u00a0<\/mark><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #4464a8;\">Le corps de Golo lui-m\u00eame, d\u2019une essence aussi surnaturelle que celui de sa monture, s\u2019arrangeait de tout obstacle mat\u00e9riel<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #2c3273;\">The body of Golo himself, being of the same supernatural substance as his steed&#8217;s, overcame all material obstacles.<\/mark><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1743\" style=\"width: 554px; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/prousty101.files.wordpress.com\/2023\/12\/brabant-1.png?w=1024\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It seems pretty darn fantastic that Marcel&#8217;s bedroom in Combray is transformed, by way of the Magic Lantern. into an interior as resplendent as a church or a cathedral, as if fashioned from stained glass or the mosaic pieces from the Basilica San Marco. \u2002<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1741\" style=\"width: 548px; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/prousty101.files.wordpress.com\/2023\/12\/magic-lantern.jpeg?w=616\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I also love the fact that Golo performs exactly as the narrator, overcoming all material obstacles and becoming the walls and doorknobs and curtains themselves. Because doesn&#8217;t the narrator overtake each character in the same way? Golo is projected onto the walls much the same as the narrator projects himself onto all of the characters.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The parallel is so playfully wrought, so seamlessly integrated into the story line that you don&#8217;t really think about it very much.\u2002How else to link a bedroom in someone&#8217;s house to the glory of a church or cathedral than to fill it with images that resemble stained glass and mosaics. Piece by piece and scene by scene, the stage is set for such a transformation from the domestic to the sublime, a simple bedroom in Combray taking on the majesty of the Basilica de San Marco.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1751\" src=\"https:\/\/prousty101.files.wordpress.com\/2023\/12\/basilica-best.jpeg?w=645\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I also love that the story of Genevieve de Brabant is drawn from The Golden Legend by Jacobus de Voragine. And there we have it.
